math: decimal points vs. commas
Isn't math supposed to be universal? Well, yes....and no. In many (most) cultures, 1.000 = one. However, in some cultures, esp. in Europe, 1.000 = a thousand. Quite the difference, no? So the question is, in those European countries, how do you distinguish between 1.000 (one) and 1.000 (a thousand)? For the sake of accurate communication, my suggestion is for us all to come together as one. Anything to the right of the decimal point should be less than one. Commas should be used to separate thousands, millions and billions. Am I being ethnocentric? Well, sure, but it's also the most logical.
Harry Potter
When I think of notable writing style and grammar, I think J. K. Rowling. What makes her writing style and word choice so brilliant?
